9:00 Keynote : Steven Stosny, Ph.D. - Basic Humanity : The Bridge to Transcendence
The great challenge of effective treatment is getting the effects of treatment to last over time. Once they return to their routines, or when caught in the throes of mounting life-stressors, clients retreat to emotion regulation habits and coping mechanisms forged as far back as toddlerhood, particularly blame, denial, and avoidance. We can make the effects of treatment transcend routine and hold under stress by helping clients expand their sense of basic humanity as a form of emotion regulation, a source of well-being, and a continual reminder of how to be the persons and partners they most want to be.
